| Scripture Focus — Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” |
Sometimes life begins to shift in ways we do not expect.
In those moments, many people quietly ask themselves a question:
“Why does it feel like my life is being redirected?”
Sometimes these changes happen because God is choosing you for a purpose greater than you imagined.
Scripture Reflection
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit.”— John 15:16
7 Signs God May Be Calling You
Here are several signs that God may be preparing you for something greater.
1. You Feel a Deep Restlessness
- You may begin to feel a quiet sense that your life is meant for more.
- Things that once satisfied you may start to feel empty or incomplete.
2. Certain Environments No Longer Fit You
- Places, conversations, and habits that once felt normal may suddenly feel uncomfortable.
- You may begin to feel pulled away from situations that no longer align with who you are becoming.
This shift can feel confusing, but it is often part of spiritual growth.
3. Your Desire for God Increases
When God begins drawing someone toward their calling, their hunger for spiritual things often increases.
You may find yourself:
- praying more often
- searching scripture for guidance
- thinking more deeply about your faith
- These moments are often the beginning of a deeper relationship with God.
4. God Begins Closing Certain Doors
Sometimes the clearest direction from God comes through closed doors.
Opportunities may disappear.
Plans may change unexpectedly.
While this can feel frustrating, these moments may actually be God redirecting your path toward something better.
5. You Experience Spiritual Opposition
Many people notice that when they begin moving toward purpose, resistance appears.
- Doubt may increase.
- Fear may try to creep in.
- Unexpected challenges may arise.
Throughout scripture, many people faced obstacles when stepping into their calling.
Opposition does not always mean you are on the wrong path.
Sometimes it confirms that you are moving toward something important.
6. You Feel Called to Help or Encourage Others
One powerful sign of a calling is a growing desire to help others.
Your experiences, struggles, and lessons begin to feel like they could encourage someone else.
God often uses our personal stories to bring hope and healing to others.
7. You Cannot Ignore the Pull Anymore
Even when you try to move in another direction, the calling continues to return.
The idea keeps resurfacing.
The burden stays in your heart.
Eventually, many people realize that the feeling will not disappear because God is inviting them into something meaningful.
Biblical Examples of People God Chose
Throughout the Bible, God called many people who felt unprepared or uncertain.
Moses
Moses encountered God through a burning bush and was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
At first, he felt completely unqualified.
Yet God used him to lead one of the greatest deliverances in scripture.
Jonah
Jonah tried to run from God’s calling.
Instead of traveling to Nineveh as instructed, he fled in the opposite direction.
But even in his resistance, God continued pursuing him until he fulfilled the assignment.
Paul
Paul once persecuted Christians before encountering Christ on the road to Damascus.
After that moment, his life changed dramatically.
He eventually became one of the most influential apostles in early Christianity.
When God Interrupts Your Plans
Many people assume that God’s calling will feel comfortable and predictable.
But often, it begins with interruption.
Plans may change.
Paths may shift.
Sometimes God removes us from familiar situations because He is preparing us for a new season.
What feels like disruption may actually be preparation.
Why Being Chosen Can Feel Lonely
Following God’s direction can sometimes create distance between you and people who once shared your path.
When your priorities change, your relationships may change as well.
Jesus warned His followers that living differently from the world could bring misunderstanding.
“If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.”
— John 15:18
This does not mean you are alone.
Often it simply means you are growing into the person God created you to be.
What Happens When We Ignore God’s Call
Ignoring God’s direction can lead to a sense of spiritual frustration.
You may feel:
-
unsettled
-
unsure of your direction
-
disconnected from purpose
Jonah’s story reminds us that avoiding God’s assignment rarely brings peace.
Eventually, the path leads back to obedience.
How to Respond When God Calls You
If you believe God is guiding your life in a new direction, there are simple ways to begin responding.
1. Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God for clarity and guidance.
2. Study Scripture
The Bible provides wisdom and direction for every season of life.
3. Seek Wise Counsel
Trusted believers can help provide perspective and encouragement.
4. Take Small Steps of Obedience
You do not need to see the entire path at once.
Sometimes the next step is all God asks for.
5. Trust the Process
God’s plans often unfold gradually.
Faith grows as we learn to trust Him through each step.
Encouragement for Those Who Feel Called
If you feel God stirring something in your heart, you are not alone.
Many people in scripture felt unsure, afraid, or unprepared when they were first called.
But God does not call people because they are already perfect.
He calls them because He sees the purpose inside them.
Prayer for Those Seeking Their Calling
Lord,
Help me trust the direction You are leading me.
Give me wisdom when I feel uncertain and courage when I feel afraid.
Open my heart to Your purpose and guide my steps according to Your will.
Strengthen my faith and remind me that Your plans are always greater than my fears.
In Jesus name Amen.
